After obtaining a master's degree at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Brno, I continued my studies in the doctoral program. In 2012, I defended rigorous work. Subsequently, I completed two unforgettable internships at the National Center for Natural Products Research - School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi. I met colleagues from different parts of the world and gained new experience from top laboratories. In 2016, I defended my dissertation entitled In vitro antimicrobial activity of selected taxa of medicinal plants and isolation of their constituents. I have been working at the Faculty of Pharmacy for 14 years in various positions, from laboratory assistant to assistant to the current assistant professor. During my scientific career, I supervised 31 successfully defended diploma theses in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, 4 rigorous theses, and I am the supervisor of a student involved in the MUNI Mendel Doctorandus international doctoral program. I am the author or co-author of 11 impactful publications, and according to the scientific database Web of Science, these articles are cited more than 330 times. I received 12 different grants to support my research and teaching activities and participated in 26 conferences. As part of cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, I lectured and led practical exercises in Pharmacognosy for 8 years.
In my professional life, I deal with plants, which I examine from almost all sides. Thanks to my knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, and phytochemical analysis, I can process them in such a way that I am able to obtain their active ingredients, which are responsible for the biological effect and pharmacological activity. I then pass on my knowledge to students within the subjects of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry. And because I have always been fascinated by the microworld of bacteria, I am actively involved in teaching Microbiology. With a doctoral student and graduate students, we mainly research bacteria resistant to antibiotic therapy. We test plant ingredients for resistant staphylococci (MRSA), combine them with available antibiotics, find out the mechanisms by which natural substances kill bacteria and surprise us with how effective these substances can be. We try to use the obtained results in the development of topical preparations intended for the therapy of infectious-inflammatory processes.
Since 2009, I also worked as a pharmacist assistant in a private pharmacy, where I managed to build a permanent clientele of patients who came to the pharmacy for professional advice. Thanks to this, I was always in contact with the current trends of modern pharmacotherapy and could appropriately combine them with new scientific findings. In the pharmacy, I also encountered methods of alternative medicine and received training in the field of homeopathy, for which I received a certificate.
The combination of my many years of pharmacy practice with scientific activity enabled me to have a better orientation in the issue of food supplements. The experience with self-treatment of patients opened new possibilities for me, and thus I managed to put the acquired knowledge to good use as a postgraduate education lecturer. I run specialized courses, lectures, and professional academies on the topic of Phytotherapy of systemic diseases.
Last but not least, I focus my energies on my family, especially my two sons. When I'm not working, I love travelling, walking, animals and relaxing by cooking and baking.
